全国初のコミューター空港として１９９１年開港した枕崎市の枕崎空港は３月３１日、閉港した。定期便がなく日ごろ静かなターミナルビルは、同空港を拠点とした運航会社に勤務していた人や市民らが訪れ、２２年間の別れを惜しんだ。最終日は小型飛行機３機が飛来。離陸の度に、関係者らが機体が見えなくなるまで手を振り見送った。

Makurazaki Airport puts down wings for good
Makurazaki Airport in Makurazaki City, which was opened as the nation's first commuter airport in 1991, closed on March 31. The terminal building, which was usually quiet with no regular flights, saw a moment of excitement as the former employees of the carrier company based at the airport, as well as the local residents, came to bid farewell to the 22-year-old local landmark. On the final day, three small planes landed. Everyone concerned waved as the aircrafts then took off for their final flights, and flew out of sight.
