霧島ジオパークのジオガイドのレベル向上と、ガイド同士の連携強化を目的に、「霧島ジオガイドネットワーク」が設立された。
同ネットワークは、昨年６月からジオパークの魅力を伝える「ジオガイド」の養成講座中級編を受講し、認定された鹿児島、宮崎両県在住の４０人で組織する。
初代代表に選ばれた原口憲太郎さん（６８）は「ガイド同士がしっかり情報を共有して、レベルアップしたい。まずは現場でのガイド勉強会を実施したい」と話した。

Kirishima Geoguide network established
"Hokusatsu Tunnel," which is part of the local high-standard road currently under construction, "Hokusatsu Ohdan Road," and which passes through Satsuma-cho and Shibi Mountain in Izumi City, opened on March 24. The 4,850-metre tunnel became the longest among the national and prefectural roads, exceeding the Kyushichi Tunnel that is 3,945 metres long, between Isa City and Hitoyoshi City, Kumamoto Prefecture. When completed, it will substantially improve the traffic accessibility in the Hokusatsu area as it will enable the drivers to avoid the Horkiri Pass in the Shibi Mountain, which has been a choke-point for traffic.
