High school students set for exam war
Kagoshima Prefectural Board of Education on February 25 released the final figures of the number of applicants for entrance exams for public high schools for the academic year 2013. The total number of applicants stood at 11,378 students against the quota of 11,878, which excluded those whose enrollment had already been admitted through the system of recommended admissions. The average competition rate was 0.96 times, which was 0.02 points lower than the previous year.
As for the rate of competition, Kagoshima Chuo High School's General Course was the highest with 1.59-- which indicates it had 1.59 times more applicants to the admission quota--, which was followed by Konan High's General Course and Kagoshima Suisan's Marine Course, both with 1.47, Kokubu Chuo High's Garden Engineering Course with 1.46, and Tsurumaru High's General Course and Kagoshima Minami's Commercial Course with 1.41.
Exams for Japanese, Science, and English will be held on March 6, and those for Social Studies and Math on the following day. Names of those who passed the exams will be released on March 14. Names of the schools and courses that will offer additional entrance exams will also be announced on the same day together with the number of students accepted.
