Toshima village set out to become elderly-friendly
Toshima-mura village announced on December 17 that it would aim to introduce a long-term care insurance project, which it currently conducts only on Takarajima Island among its seven inhabited islands, throughout the rest of the islands in 2014.
The village has set up "Support team for the elderly," consisting of the residents, and currently holds a weekly gathering for senior residents on each island. It plans to upgrade the service to a nursing care project, in a tie-up with a business operator outside the village, once it has established a system that has the residents involved in supporting the elderly.
