第６１回おはら祭の本まつり（同祭振興会主催）が１１月３日、鹿児島市の天文館一帯であった。さわやかな秋晴れの下、過去最多となる２２０連約１万７０００人が大通りを所狭しと踊り歩いた。
鮮やかな衣装に身を包んだ参加者は、おはら節やハンヤ節のリズムに合わせ、「ヨイヤサー」と元気な掛け声を上げ続けた。自由な振り付けが許される場面では、工夫を凝らした踊りで沿道の観覧客を楽しませた。

Ohara festival reminds Tenmonkan of hustle and bustle
The main part of the 61st Ohara Festival (sponsored by the event's committee) took place in Tenmonkan area in Kagoshima City on November 3. Under the crystalline autumn sky, a record number of some 17,000 people from 220 groups performed dances along the main street.
Participants in colourful costumes danced while calling out cheerful chants of "Yoiyasaa!" at fixed intervals to the rhythm of Ohara-bushi or Hanya-bushi. In the freestyle, where participants were allowed to dance in their own styles, dancers displayed their uniquely choreographed dances-- greatly to the entertainment of onlookers.
