アジアの６カ国・地域から青少年を迎えて文化交流を深める第３回アジアん鹿児島（かごしまアジア青少年芸術祭２００８）が１８日と１９日、鹿児島市の宝島ホールと中央公園を舞台に行われた。今年のNHK大河ドラマ「篤姫」の曲を担当したことで知られる地元出身の作曲家・吉俣良氏もゲスト参加し、例年以上の盛り上がりを見せた。また、参加者と地元の学校との交流事業や市内観光もあり、参加者達は普段着の国際交流を楽しんだ。

Feel the Asian breeze
The 3rd Asia Youth Art Festival took place on October 18 and 19 at Kagoshima City’s Houzan Hall and Chūo Park respectively, inviting participants from six countries and regions. The event attracted more people than previous years as it featured a locally born composer Mr. Yoshimata Ryō who became widely known for directing the music used in the NHK period drama ‘Atsuhime’ that also features a princess born in Kagoshima. There were some cultural exchanges for the participants with local schools as well as sightseeing in the city, where the Asian ambassadors mixed with the locals at a glass-roots level.

‘The … Festival’ は「かごしまアジア青少年芸術祭」。因みに、原稿の段階で ‘Kagoshima’ を入れるのを忘れていたので朗読音声では ‘Kagoshima’ が抜けています。すみません。。。‘took place’ は「開催された（was held）」。‘respectively’ は「それぞれ」。‘inviting … regions’ は「６カ国・地域からの参加者を招いて」。‘invite’ は「〈人を〉招く、・・・に招待する」。「地域」が入っているのは、香港も入っているからです。

‘The … years’ は「そのイベント（アジアん鹿児島のこと）は例年以上の観客が集まった」。‘attract’ は「〈人・物・事が〉〈注意・興味など〉を引く、引きつける」。‘previous’ は「〈時間・順序が〉前の、以前の（earlier）」。‘locally born’ は「地元出身の」。このように名詞の前で複数の単語を繋ぐことで後に続く名詞に対して形容詞的な意味合いを持たせる方法としてはハイフン（－）で繋ぐ方法がありますが、‘locally born’ のように「‘-ly’ で終わる副詞＋分詞」の形ではハイフンは使いません。‘who … Atsuhime’ は「（吉俣良氏は）NHK大河ドラマ『篤姫』の音楽を監督したことで広く知られるようになった」。‘direct’ は「〈人が〉〈人・事〉を指揮する、管理する（control）；〈映画・劇・俳優など〉を監督する、演出する（produce）」。‘period drama’ は「時代劇」。‘that … Kagoshima’ は「（『篤姫』もまた）鹿児島生まれのお姫様を主役にしている」。「篤姫」の説明として補足的に加えてみました。

‘cultural exchanges’ は「文化交流」。‘sightseeing’ は「観光」。‘where … level’ は「（文化交流や市内観光において）そのアジアの使節たち（アジアの青少年のこと）は草の根レベルで交流した」。‘ambassador’ は「〔・・・駐在の〕大使；使節、代表（representative）；使者」。‘mix with …’ は「〔・・・と〕混ざる、溶け合う、調和する；・・・と付き合う、交流する（interact with, get on with）」。‘grass-roots’ は「草の根の、民衆に根ざした」。



タイトルの “Feel the Asian breeze”　は「アジアの風を感じて」。
