Chiran aims to make Kamikaze documents Memory of the World
Minamikyushu City revealed on June 4 that it would aim for the registration of the documents at Chiran Peace Memorial Hall as The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO)'s "Memory of the World." It will submit the letter of recommendation in 2012 then proceed with the preparations, aiming to be listed in 2015.
Among some 12,000 collections at the war museum, half of them are things that have been left behind by the members of the former Japanese Imperial Army's Special Attack Forces (Kamikaze) who died in the Battle of Okinawa at the end of the Pacific War. The authorities aim to promote the digitalisation and replication of the museum's collections besides their permanent preservation and thereby utilise them to continue appealing for world peace.
