第三セクター・肥薩おれんじ鉄道（熊本県八代市）は、２０１３年３月をめどに観光列車の運行を始める。好調な観光客の取り込みを強化し、収益増につなげる狙い。列車のデザインは、九州新幹線「つばめ」や観光特急「指宿のたまて箱」を手掛けた水戸岡鋭治氏が担当する。
同鉄道の古木圭介社長は「自慢の景色の中をゆっくり走る列車そのものを観光資源にしていく。沿線外の客を呼び込む起爆剤にして、経営安定化につなげたい」と話している。

Orange train to offer new train tour
The joint public-private venture, Hisatsu Orange Train in Yatsushiro, Kumamoto Prefecture, will launch a sightseeing train in March 2013. It aims to increase its profits by attracting more tourists whose number has been on the rise. Mr. Mitooka Eiji, who have also designed the Kyushu Shinkansen bullet train "Tsubame" and a sightseeing express train "Ibusuki no Tamatebako," will be in charge of the train design.
The president of the local train, Mr. Kogi Keisuke, said that he would like to make the slow trains themselves the tourism feature by taking advantage of the wonderful view from the windows, and thereby attract passengers other than the local commuters to stabilise its management.
