高校生就活スタート
高校生の採用選考が１６日解禁され、鹿児島県内の企業で採用試験が始まった。県内就職希望の減少などを受け、８月末現在の県内の求人倍率は、０．８５倍と前年同月より０．０９ポイント上昇した。鹿児島労働局は「求人倍率の上昇は企業の求人票提出の早期化と、県内希望者の減少が影響したのでは」とみている。

Job market opens for high-schoolers
Companies throughout the prefecture started offering recruitment exams after the job-hunting season for high school students was officially announced on September 16. The ratio of job offers to applicants in the prefecture as of the end of August was 0.85, up 0.09 points from the same period last year. The Kagoshima labour department attributed the increase in the competition rate to the companies’ earlier issuing of job-opening information, as well as fewer applications to local companies by students compared to the previous year.

‘Companies … exams’ は「県内の会社が採用試験を始めた」’offer’ は「・・・を提供する、差し出す；・・・を提案する」。‘recruitment’ は「新職員（新会員）募集；新兵（補充兵）募集」。‘after … 16’ は「９月１６日に高校生の就職シーズンが公告された後」。‘job-hunting’ は「就職活動」。動詞形は ‘job-hunt’。‘officially’ は「公式に、正式に」。‘announce’ は「・・・を公表する、公告する；・・・と宣言する」。

‘The … applicants’ は「求人に対する応募者の割合」で「求人倍率」の訳。他にも ‘jobs-to-applicants ratio’ ‘job-opening-to-application ratio’ などの表現もできます。‘as of …’ は「・・・時点で、・・・現在」。‘up … year’ は「昨年同時期から0.9ポイント上昇した」。‘up’ は「・・・を上げる、増す（increase, boost, gain, raise）」。

‘The … information’ は「鹿児島労働局はその競争率（求人倍率のこと）の上昇の理由は企業の求人票提出の早期化によるものとみている」。‘labour’ は ‘labor’ の英国風の綴りで「（つらい）労働；労働者、被雇用者側；陣痛（~pain）」。キリスト教の旧約聖書において、禁断の実を食べて楽園から追放されたアダムとイブに対して２つの ‘labour’ を与えた。男性であるアダムには「労働」、女性であるイブには「陣痛」という苦しみを・・・ということになっているみたいですが、女性が社会進出を果たした現在の状況を考えると、どうやら女性は「二重苦」に苦しまなければならないようですね（笑）。
‘attribute … to ~’ は「・・・の原因を～に帰する、～のせいにする」。‘job-opening information’ は「求人票」。‘as … year’ は「前年と比べて地元企業への応募が少なかったことも（求人倍率の上昇の理由だとみている）」。‘A as well as B’ は「Aと同様にBも；AのみならずBも」。‘compared to …’ は「・・・と比較して」。‘the previous year’ は「前年」。




タイトルの “Job market opens for high-schoolers”　は「高校生の就職戦線が始まる」。
‘job market’ は「求人〔雇用・就職〕市場、就職戦線、雇用状況」。
