平均年齢４０歳以上のアマチュアバンドが競う「第１５回熱血！オヤジバトル」の決戦ライブが２月１２日、福岡市であり、西日本ブロック代表として出場した徳之島の「まぶらい」が全国グランプリに輝いた。闘牛のときなどに歌われる「ワイド節」をハードロック調にアレンジした曲で会場を大いに盛り上げた。
「まぶらい」は、「先祖に守られる」という意味の方言。ボーカルの加川徹さん（５３）＝徳之島町亀津＝を中心に２０～５０代の男性５人で編成。ライブの模様は３月２４日午前０時１５分からＮＨＫ総合テレビで放送される。

“Maburai” gets bang at “big daddies’ band contest”
“Maburai” from Tokunoshima Island that represented the West Japan bloc, captured the Grand Prix in the final of “The 15th Nekketsu! Oyaji Battle (Hot-blooded Daddies’ Battle)” that was held on February 12 in Fukuoka City. “Oyaji Battle” is a contest among amateur bands comprised of members whose average age is 40 years and older. The islanders excited the audience with their song “Waido-bushi”—their local folk song sung in such occasions as a bullfight—that had been arranged into hard rock.
“Maburai” is their local dialect that means “protected by the ancestors.” The band is comprised of five members in their 20s and 50s and led by the vocalist Mr. Kagawa Toru (53) from Kamezu, Tokunoshima-cho. The music performances at the runoff will be broadcast on NHK General TV from 0:15 am on March 24.
