メタボは男の貫禄？
４０－７４歳を対象に４月から始まった特定健診で、鹿児島県内では女性よりも男性にメタボ該当者が多いことが、県民総合保健センターの調べで分かった。腹囲が「男性８５センチ、女性９０センチ以上」で、高血糖、高脂血、高血圧の３項目のうち２つ以上当てはまる人がメタボ該当者。同センターの瀬戸山副理事長は「食事と運動療法で内臓脂肪はとれる」と話している。

Fat chance of losing weight?
The prefecture’s Public Health Centre has reported that more men fell under the category of ‘suffering from metabolic syndrome’ (widely recognised as ‘metabo’ for short in Japanese) than women in the new medical check-up, which started in April targeting citizens aged between 40 and 74. People whose abdominal circumference is over 85cm for men and 90 for women, and fulfil more than two of the following three categories; high blood sugar level, hyperlipaemia and high blood pressure, are diagnosed as ‘metabo.’ The centre’s deputy chief, Mr. Setoyama, suggested that the right diet and proper exercise are necessary to lose visceral fat.
