２０１１年世界室内自転車競技選手権鹿児島大会が１１月４日、鹿児島市の鹿児島アリーナで開幕した。日本での開催は０１年の加世田大会以来１０年ぶり。６日まで１４カ国・地域の代表１６０人が、サイクルサッカー、サイクルフィギュアの２競技で熱戦を繰り広げる。
開会式では桜島火の島太鼓保存会の演奏に合わせ、鹿児島市一倉小児童が一輪車の集団演技を披露して会場を盛り上げ、約３０００人の観衆から喝采を浴びた。

World bike championship opens in Kagoshima
The 2011 World Indoor Cycling Championship in Kagoshima opened at Kagoshima Arena in Kagoshima City on November 4. It is the first time for the country to host the event in a decade since they did in Kaseda (Kagoshima Prefecture) in 2001. A total of 160 national players from 14 countries or regions will stage exciting performances in cycle soccer and cycle figure dancing until the 6th.
At the opening ceremony, pupils at Hitokura Elementary School in Kagoshima City livened up the atmosphere with their team unicycle performances along with drums by Sakurajima Hinoshima Daiko Preservation Society, drawing applause from about 3,000 spectators.
