Kanoya suffers from thorns of poor roses
Kanoya City suspended its annual “declaration” of the blooming of roses in its Kanoya Rose Garden before the Autumn Rose Festival which opened from October 22. The decision had been made due to extremely poor growth of roses compared to average years.
Kanoya Rose Garden grows 50,000 roses of some 4,000 kinds in ten hectares of land. Three are about 33,000 underdeveloped roses grown in the same lot. The remaining 17,000 plants are growing well and are expected to be at their best in November as usual, according to the sources.
Autumn Rose Festival will run until November 13. Due to the unfavourable condition of the flowers, the admission fee during the term was lowered to half the usual price at 300 yen for adults and 100 yen for elementary, junior high and high school students.
