新燃の火山灰に「萌え」？

都城市に降り積もった新燃岳の火山灰が、学術研究や工業製品開発の材料として人気を集めている。無償提供を続ける市は「予算を使わず厄介払いできる」と引き合いの多さを歓迎、今後の需要増に備えて純度の高い灰の保管を続けている。
福岡県みやま市のＮＰＯ法人ひとびと福祉事業団は障害者の自立支援を目的に栽培するブルーベリーの畑の土壌改良などに使うとし、数回に分けて計１００トンの提供を受ける。

Fallen Shinmoe ash bringing windfall
Volcanic ash from Shinmoedake peak that has piled up in Miyakonojo City has been receiving increasing inquiries for academic research, or for ingredients in industrial product development. The city, which has been offering the dust free of charge, is welcoming the trend as it “can get rid of (the dust) without using its budget”, and is continuing to store pure ash in anticipation for greater demand in the future.
Hitobito Welfare Services Foundation in Miyama City, Fukuoka Prefecture will be provided with a total of around 100 tons, in instalments, for soil modification of its blueberry farm which they manage in order to support people with disabilities.
