火山めぐりヨットレース ３８艇が熱戦

２０１１鹿児島カップ火山めぐりヨットレース（同実行委員会主催）が７月１６日と１７日、錦江湾で行なわれた。県内をはじめ大阪や福岡などから３８艇が参加。白い雲がわき立つ夏空の下、帆に潮風をはらませて熱戦を繰り広げた。
今年で２２回目。４クラスで競った１６日のインショアレースは風がなく、多くのヨットがゴールできない展開になった。翌日のトライアングルレースは、台風６号の影響でコースが短縮されたほか、１８～２０日に予定していたオフショアレースも台風の影響で中止された。１７日には同市本港新町のウオーターフロントパークで「錦江湾潮風フェスタ」が開催され、シーカヤック体験やフリーマーケットなどがあった。

Kagoshima Cup Yacht Race blown off course by typhoon
Kagoshima Cup Yacht Race Around Volcanoes 2011, hosted by the event’s committee, took place in Kinko Bay on July 16 and 17. A total of 38 boats including those from outside the prefecture from places such as Osaka and Fukuoka took part in the race. Under the summer sky with rising white clouds, they displayed heated battles while catching the salt breeze in their sails.
This year marked the 22nd anniversary of the event. During Inshore Race on July 16, in which participants competed in four classes, a windless condition prevented many yachts from crossing the finish line. The following day’s Triangle Race was shortened due to typhoon No.6--which also forced Offshore Race, slated from the 18th to the 20th, to be cancelled. On the 17th, “Kinko Bay Shiokaze Festa” was held at Waterfront Park in Honkoshinmachi in Kagoshima City where people enjoyed a variety of events such as a sea kayaking experience and a flea market.
