Lantern festival turns on Kagoshima’s summer heat
The annual festival at the height of summer, Terukuni Shrine Rokugatsudo Lantern Festival, took place at Terukuni Shrine in Kagoshima City on July 15 and 16. In the twilight, around a thousand lanterns were lit up in the precinct of the shrine where youngsters in yukata summer kimonos and families with fans in hand enjoyed strolling along the pathway.
The approach to the shrine was filled with people and stalls were crowded with customers who lined up for goldfish scooping, cotton candy, and other treats. Attractions such as stage performances, service of Maccha powdered green tea, and fireworks also helped create excitement.
