重要サンゴ群に１５４カ所
世界自然保護基金（ＷＷＦ）ジャパンは３日、南西諸島の保全すべき重要サンゴ群集１５４カ所を発表した。鹿児島県関係は種子島の浦田、奄美大島の笠利湾、大島海峡など３１カ所。ＷＷＦジャパンは「地域でサンゴ保全を考えるきっかけにしてほしい」と話している。

Bring relief to coral reef
On July 3, the World Wildlife Fund Japan, or WWF Japan, unveiled 154 important coral communities that have to be preserved in the country’s southernmost Nansei islands. Of those, 31 spots, including Urata of Tanegashima Island, Kasaru Bay of Amami Oshima Islands, and Oshima Strait, are inside the jurisdiction of Kagoshima Prefecture. WWF Japan said they hope the people in the communities will use the list as a trigger to think together about coral protection.

‘the … Fund’ は「世界自然保護基金」。‘unveiled … preserved’ は「保全すべき重要珊瑚群集１５４カ所を発表した」。‘unveil’ は「・・・を明らかにする、公にする（uncover, reveal, announce, disclose, make O public）」。‘coral’ は「珊瑚礁」。‘preserve’ は「・・・を保つ、維持する；保護する（protect, conserve）」。



“Of those, 31 spots, including Urata of Tanegashima Island, Kasaru Bay of Amami Oshima Islands, and Oshima Strait, are inside the jurisdiction of Kagoshima Prefecture.”

‘Of those’ は「それらの内」。’31 … Prefecture’ は「・・・を含む３１カ所は鹿児島県の管轄区内である」。‘jurisdiction’ は「司法権、支配権（control）；管轄区、管区（precinct, province, district）」。



“WWF Japan said they hope the people in the communities will use the list as a trigger to think together about coral protection.”

‘they … protection’ は「彼ら（ＷＷＦジャパン）は地域の人々がそのリスト（「保存すべき珊瑚礁群集」のこと）を珊瑚礁保全についてみんなで考えるきっかけにして欲しいと願っている」。‘use ~ as a trigger to …’ は「～を・・・のきっかけにする」。‘trigger’ は「（鉄砲の）引き金；機械の止め金、制動装置」。



タイトルの “Bring relief to coral reef”　は「珊瑚礁に救いの手を」。

‘relief’ と ‘reef’ で韻を踏んでいます。おまけに、‘Bring’ ‘relief’ ‘coral’ ‘reef’ と、‘r’ の「ストレートフラッシュ」です！
