奄美シーカヤックマラソン
国内最大規模の大会である「２００８奄美シーカヤックマラソンｉｎ加計呂麻大会」（瀬戸内町主催）が２９日、同町の大島海峡であった。２２都府県から４２７人、３８４艇が出場。１人艇と２人艇のマラソン（３６キロ）とハーフ（２０キロ）のほか、４人１組の駅伝レースで競った。神奈川県から参加した６９歳の男性は「体力の許す限り参加したい」と語った。

Amami sea kayak marathon
On June 29, the ‘Amami Sea Kayak Marathon 2008 in Kakeroma,’ one of the biggest of its kind, took place in Setouchi Town’s Oshima Strait, with the town also hosting the event. A total of 427 athletes aboard 384 boats gathered from 22 prefectures to compete in 36km and 20km courses for either one-man or two-man kayaks, and a foursome relay. A 69-year-old man from Kanagawa Prefecture said he hopes to participate in the event so far as he is physically able.

‘the … Kakeroma’ は「２００８奄美シーカヤックマラソンｉｎ加計呂麻大会」。‘one … kind’ は「その部類のものでは最大の」。‘took place’ は「開催された（（be）held）」。‘strait’ は「海峡」。より大きいものは ‘channel’。‘with … event’ は「瀬戸内町が主催して」。‘host’ は「・・・を主催する」。

‘A … prefectures’ は「３８４艇のボートに乗った計４２７人の選手が２２都道府県から集まった」。‘athlete’ は「運動選手」。‘aboard’ は「・・・に乗って（on board）」。‘to … relay’ は「１人艇と２人艇の３６キロと２０キロのほか、４人１組の駅伝レースで競った」。‘foursome’ は「４人組、４つで１組のもの」。

‘he … able’ は「体が丈夫な限りはこの大会に参加したい」。‘participate in …’ は「・・・に参加する（join, take part in, compete in）」。‘so(as) far as …’ は「・・・である限りは」。‘physically’ は ‘physical’（身体の、肉体の）の形容詞形。対義語は ‘mental’（精神の、心的な）。‘able’ は「・・・することができる；有能な（competent, good）」。対義語は ‘unable’（できない）。‘disable’ は「・・・にできなくさせる（<->enable）」。



タイトルの “Amami sea kayak marathon”　は「奄美シーカヤックマラソン」。


GAiGOの学生は、今年も夏休みを利用して「かごしまカヤックス」のシーカヤック・ツアーに参加します。学生達は現在、今週末７月１２日（土）に当校で開催する１学期末スピーチコンテストに向けて頑張っています。今年からは、今年度から始まった音楽の授業『MUSiC』の発表会も同時に行われます。この様子は「GAiGO News」でお伝えします。因みに、今月からは朗読音声のジングルが、レゲエ調の夏限定バージョンです！＾０＾！
