Kagoshima population falls below 1.7 mil.
According to the monthly population survey released by Kagoshima Prefecture on April 28, the prefecture’s estimated population as of April 1 was 1,698,500 falling below 1.7 million for the first time in 36 years since September 1, 1975 when the population stood at 1,698,230.
The latest projected population analysis showed a month-to-month decrease of 5,590. Recently, there has been a loss of over 5,000 in April when many people moved out either to enter schools or companies; and this year also saw a drop of 5,012 due to transfers to and from the prefecture. Population shifts owing to birth and death had decreased by 578. Meanwhile, all of the prefecture’s 43 municipalities showed negative growth from the month before.
