Kagoshima prefectural assembly race starts
The Kagoshima Prefectural assembly election for the next term was announced on April 1. The assembly race will be conducted ahead of other unified local elections that are to be held for the first time after the regime change and will be held under the reorganised electoral system with the total number of seats being cut by three from the current 54 to 51, and constituencies being reduced by two from 23 to 21.
Registration was closed at 5 pm on the same day, and a total of 79 candidates filed their candidacy. Of those, nine candidates in six electoral districts were elected with no contest as they didn’t have rival candidates. The remaining 70 runners have entered a nine day election campaign vying for 42 seats in 15 constituencies.
The vote will be held on the 10th of this month with the exception of some zones, and ballots will be counted on the same day.
