雄コアラが誕生 鹿児島市平川動物公園

鹿児島市の平川動物公園で、８年ぶりとなる雄コアラの赤ちゃんが誕生し、３月２５日に母親の袋の中から初めて全身を出した。同園で誕生した５４頭目のコアラとなる。
コアラは２、３歳から繁殖が可能。同園の飼育数は減少傾向にあり、職員らは大きな期待を寄せている。
石堂昭憲園長（５９）は「赤ちゃんが袋から顔を出す回数は徐々に増え、見られる機会も多くなる。繁殖も見据え大切に育てていきたい」と話した。名前は公募する予定。

Kagoshima City’s Hirakawa Zoological Park has had its first male koala in eight years, and he popped out of mother’s pouch for the first time on March 25. He has become the 54th koala born in the zoo.
The marsupial mammal can breed from the age of two or three. Staff members have a high expectation of the newly born koala as the zoo has had fewer koalas than before.
The zoo’s general manager, Mr. Ishido Akinori (59) said, “The baby will show his face from the pouch more frequently so (visitors) will have more chances to see him. We’d like to take good care of the baby while also taking propagation into consideration.” The zoo is planning to collect ideas for the baby’s name.
