全県一斉休漁へ
鹿児島県漁業協同組合連合会は１９日、全国漁業協同組合連合会などが呼びかけている７月の一斉休漁への参加を決めた。燃油価格高騰による漁業者の窮状を訴える狙いで、県内の漁船１万１０００隻余りが対象。県漁連は「漁業経営が追い詰められており、このままでは水産物の安定供給にも影響が出かねないことを知ってもらいたい」としている。

Fishermen cry over oil crisis
On June 19, the prefecture’s Federation of Fisheries Cooperative Association announced its decision to join a mass suspension of operations in July, responding to the call by the national federation and others. This is aimed at highlighting their plight due to skyrocketing fuel prices, and around 11,000 fishing boats are to be involved. The fishery federation said they would like to appeal to the public that their management is up against a corner, and that the issue could possibly affect the stable supply of seafood products in the future.

‘cry over …’ は「・・・のことで泣く、嘆く」。‘cry’ と ‘crisis’ で韻を踏ませています。
‘It is no use crying over spilt milk’（覆水盆に帰らず）ということわざも併せて覚えておきましょう。

魚を売るはずの漁師が「油を売る」ことになってしまったとは、なんとも皮肉な話ですが、原油価格の高騰の影響で、あらゆる商品が値上げされ始めています。これを受けて、６月２２日には石油輸出機構（ＯＰＥＣ）加盟国、欧米、日本、中国などが緊急会合を開き、サウジアラビア側から原油の増産が約束されました。しかし、これはあくまでも一時的な対策です。これを機に、消費の節約と、環境にやさしいエネルギーへの転換を図ることが重要です。
