Kagoshima: most wanted tourist destination in Kyushu
According to a survey on people’s attitudes toward the nearly-completed Kyushu Shinkansen bullet train lines connecting Kansai and Kyushu areas, compiled by the Kumamoto City-based Regional Distribution Economics Institute, a Higo Bank think tank, Kagoshima Prefecture topped the list as “a prefecture I want to visit in the Kyushu area.” Seven prefectures including Tokyo and those in Kansai and Chugoku regions responded.
The survey was conducted via the internet on January 5 and 6 and included 206 people from each prefecture. When asked about the purpose of the visit, 86.6% of the total answered they “would like to go to Kyushu for sightseeing or leisure.”
　In response to the question, “a prefecture in Kyushu I’d like to go to for sightseeing or leisure,” for which multiple answers were allowed, over 60% of the respondents in five prefectures--notably Yamaguchi at 69.8%, which was followed by Hiroshima, Hyogo, Kyoto and Okayama— named Kagoshima as their favourite. Kagoshima gained more than 10% over the other competitors in all these five regions.
