Bird flu giving goose bumps to Izumi citizens
A ban on the distribution of chickens and eggs produced around the farms in Izumi City, where the outbreak of the highly-pathogenic bird flu (H5N1) had been confirmed, has gradually affected citizens’ dinner tables.
Schools in the city have been promoting the consumption of local food in their school lunches, and they had used mostly locally produced chicken eggs. So far, they have been utilising stocks of frozen food or have been changing suppliers and haven’t had any major confusion. And some schools reportedly changed ingredients from chicken to pork on the 25th when infection is believed to have broken out.
As a self-defence measure, confectionary stores will secure eggs before the regulation takes effect.
