屋久島町　ウェブも「合併」
屋久島町は、次世代の情報共有基盤システムといわれるＮｅｔ　Ｃｏｍｍｏｎｓ（ネットコモンズ）を活用した公式サイトを立ち上げた。同町は、昨年１０月に旧二町が合併して以来、ホームページの統合が大きな課題だった。現在、防災無線の情報や休日在宅医などの情報を即時配信しており、今後も島内の小中学校や各集落のウェブサイトなどを順次構築していく予定。

Yakushima unites on website
Yakushima Town has set up an official website utilising what is deemed as a next-generation information-sharing infrastructure system called the ‘Net Commons,’ in a move to integrate the two websites of the old towns which were merged last October. The world-heritage-listed town constantly distributes a variety of information, such as news about the community radio or the availability of doctors for home medical care on holidays. In addition, it will also set up web pages for the local elementary and junior high schools as well as villages.

‘Yakushima … website’ 「屋久島町が公式ホームページを立ち上げた」。‘set up’ は「設置する、設立する」。‘utilising … Commons’ は「ネットコモンズと呼ばれる、次世代の情報共有基盤システムとみられているものを活用して」。‘utilise(utilize)’ は「・・・のために利用する、役立たせる（use）」。‘deem’ は‘deem’ は「（物・事）を・・・だと考える、思う」。‘think’ や ‘consider’ より正式な表現です。‘next-generation’（次世代の） ‘information-sharingｙ（情報共有の）は、ともに単語をハイフン（hyphen）で繋いで形容詞的な意味を持たせています。
‘in … October’ は「昨年１０月に合併した旧町の２つのホームページを統合する策として」。‘in a move to …’ は「・・・する動きの中で；・・・する策として」。‘integrate’ は「統合する」。類は ‘combine’ ‘unify’ ‘consolidate’ ‘incorporate’ など。‘merge’ は「合併する」。類は ‘amalgamate’ ‘combine’ ‘consolidate’ ‘incorporate’ ‘affiliate’ ‘tie up’。

‘The … town’ は「その世界遺産に登録された町」で、屋久島町のこと。‘world heritage’ は「世界遺産」。‘constantly … information’ は「多様な情報を絶えず配信している」。‘constantly’ は「絶えず、繰り返して」。‘distribute’ は「（物・情報など）を供給する、配布する」。‘such as’ は「・・・のような」。‘news … radio’ は「地域無線の情報」。‘community wireless system’ とも言います。‘the … holidays’　は「休日の在宅医の状況」。‘availability’ は「利用できること、入手の可能性」。‘home medical care’ は「在宅医療」。

‘In addition’ は「付け加えて」。類は ‘besides’ ‘what is more’ ‘on top of that’ など。‘it … villages’ は「町は地元の小・中学校や集落のホームページも設立する」。‘web page’ は「ホームページ」のこと。英語で ‘home page’ というと通常はサイト全体ではなく、トップページのことを指します。



タイトルの “Yakushima unites on website”　は「屋久島がウェブ上で結合する」。

屋久島町は、２００７年１０月１日に、上屋久町と屋久町が合併して誕生しました。１９９３年（平成５年）に日本で初めて世界自然遺産に登録されたことで、観光客も大幅に増加しているようですが、一方で、観光客が持ち込むゴミや、登山客の増加で屋久杉が痛むなどの環境問題も増加しているようです。観光地にとって、観光客は大事な収入源であるため、なかなか注意しにくい面があります。観光客ひとりひとりのモラルの向上が大切です。
