ルリカケス 「希少種」指定解除へ
鹿児島県の県鳥で奄美固有種ルリカケスが、８月にも環境省の国内希少野生動植物種の指定から解除される。種の保存に最低限必要とされる１０００羽以上の生息が認定されたためで、指定解除は全国初。同省は「地域の努力などで生物環境が向上している証し」と評価している。

The Environment Ministry has decided to delist Purple Jay, a bird species indigenous to the Amami Islands, and a symbol of Kagoshima Prefecture, from its rare species list in August after it confirmed a population of more than a thousand, which is deemed as the minimum number for species preservation. The ministry appraised the nation’s first-ever declassification case as a result of the locals’ efforts to improve the biological environment.

‘The … list’ は「環境省は、奄美固有の鳥類で、鹿児島県のシンボルであるルリカケスを、希少種の指定から外すことを決定した」。‘The Environment Ministry’ は「環境省」。‘delist’ は「リストから外す」。‘Purple Jay’ は「ルリカケス」。因みに、アメリカ大リーグのチーム名（Toronto Blue Jays）にもなっている ‘Blue Jay’ は同種で「アオカケス」と言う鳥です。‘species’ は「（生物の分類上の）種」。単数形でも ‘species’。‘specie’ だと「（紙幣・手紙に対して）正金（金銀銅貨のこと）、正貨（coin money）」（ジーニアス英和辞典）を指します。‘indigenous to …’ は「（ある土地・国に）固有の、原産の（native）；生まれつきの」。類は ‘peculiar to’ ‘native to’ ‘unique to’ など。
‘after … preservation’ は「（環境省が）種の保存に最低限必要とされる1000羽以上（のルリカケス）を確認したため」。‘confirm’ は「確認する」。因みに、国外便の飛行機では、帰りの便の再確認（reconfirmation）が必要ですね。‘population’ は「人口、住民数；個体数」。‘deem’ は「（物・事）を・・・だと考える、思う」。‘think’ や ‘consider’ より正式な表現です。‘preservation’ は「維持（保存）すること、貯蔵」。類は ‘protection’ ‘conservation’。

全訳は「環境省はその全国初の指定解除の事例を、生物環境を向上させるための地元の努力の結果だと評価した」。‘appraise’ は「（土地・財産・人・能力など）を（正確に・専門的に）評価する（assess, evaluate）、査定する」。‘first-ever’ は「最初の（very first）」。‘declassification’ は「（政治・軍事情報など）の機密扱いを解除すること」。‘as a result of …’ は「・・・の結果として」。‘biological’ は ‘biology’（生物学）の形容詞形で「生物学上の、生物学的な」。



タイトルの “Out of danger”　は「危機脱出」。

ルリカケスはスズメ目カラス科で体長約３８センチ。頭、翼、尾が瑠璃（ルリ）色であることからルリカケスの名が付いています。絶滅のおそれがあるとして１９９３年に環境省の国内希少野生動植物種に指定されました。指定が増える中、非常に稀なケースだそうです。暗いニュースが多い中、久しぶりに明るい「瑠璃色」のニュースでした。
