阿久根市の竹原信一前市長の失職に伴う出直し市長選挙で当選した西平良将市長（３７）は１月１７日、同市役所に初登庁した。当選証書を付与された後、市長就任式に臨み、「市民の利益を目指し、すばらしい阿久根をつくっていきたい」と決意を述べた。
一方、西平市長は同日、竹原前市長の専決処分で副市長に選任されていた仙波敏郎氏を副市長職から解任した。

Novice mayor in service: Akune City
Newly elected Akune Mayor Nishihara Yoshimasa (37), who won the mayoral election held after the former mayor Takehara Shinichi lost his job, made his first attendance at the City office on January 17.
During the mayoral inauguration ceremony, which was held after the new mayor was given a certificate of election, Nishihara stated his determination: “I’d like to make Akune a wonderful city by pursuing the interests of our citizens.”
Meanwhile, on the same day, he dismissed Mr. Senba Toshiro, who had been assigned as the deputy mayor by Takehara without the approval of the city council, from his post.
