The “Year-End Jumbo Lottery” in which the sequential ticket holders have the chance to win up to 300 million yen, which includes the prizes for the adjacent numbers of the first prize, went on sale across the country on November 24. At a lottery stand in Tenmonkan Chance Centre in Nakamachi, Kagoshima City, people waited in a long queue to buy the tickets.
Mr. Fukumoto Tatsuki (74) from Fukuyama, Kirishima City, purchased the tickets in the hope that the coincidence of his birthday being the same day as the first day of the sale would bring him the jackpot. He talked about his dream: “If I win the prize, I’d like to travel around the world on my first overseas trip. I also hope that I can make a contribution to helpless children around the globe.”
This year’s year-end lottery includes 74 first prizes of 200 million yen and 370 second prizes of 100 million yen meaning it would produce 444 “millionaires” altogether, which is double last year's number. Tickets will be sold until December 24 and the draw will be held on New Year’s Eve.
