おはら祭１万３０００人総踊り／鹿児島市
第５９回おはら祭（同祭振興会主催）の本まつりが１１月３日、鹿児島市の天文館一帯で開かれた。秋晴れの下、１３９連・約１万３０００人が総踊り。「ヨイヤサー」と掛け声を響かせ、電車通りを練り歩いた。
午前１０時２０分、女性を中心とした「おごじょ太鼓」の競演でスタート。地方（じかた）のにぎやかな演奏に合わせ、おはら節やハンヤ節を踊る人の波が揺れた。マーチングパレードや伝統芸能の披露も祭りを盛り上げた。
霧島市牧園町高千穂の三浦道夫さん（６４）は「踊り手の笑顔を見ると、こちらもうきうきしてくる。不景気を吹き飛ばすような活気に元気が出た」と話した。

Take steps forward in festive mood
The main part of the 59th Ohara Festival (hosted by the event’s promotion committee) took place in Kagoshima City’s Tenmonkan area on November 3. Under the clear autumn sky, a total of some 13,000 people from 139 groups paraded throughout the main street along the tram line while dancing with a chant of “Yoiyasaa!”
At 10:20am, the festival started with a performance of Japanese drums by “Ogojo Daiko,” which was comprised of mostly women. The street was filled with people dancing Ohara-bushi, or Hanya-bushi, in rhythm with the lively music played by a band comprised of folk strings and drums. There were also a parade of marching bands and performances of traditional arts that added excitement to the festival.
Mr. Miura Michio (64) from Takachiho, Makizono town in Kirishima City said: “The smiles of the dancers have made me excited. I’ve gotten a lift from their vitality that would drive away the recession mood.”
