Kotsuki River banks refurbished to draw tourists
An improvement project conducted by Kagoshima City for the purpose of creating a green area on the right bank of Kotsuki River in the city’s Uenosono has been completed. Celebrating the completion, a ceremony was held on August 4 in front of a visitor centre called “Kanko Koryu Centre,” which will be the hub for tours around the town. Now the reformation of both sides of the river, in anticipation for the opening of the entire route of the Kyushu Shinkansen Line next March, has been completed.
According to the city’s Tourism Planning Section, the right bank had been refurbished in the image of a “contemporary Kagoshima,” thereby making it a community space in conjunction with the adjacent Naples Street, while also offering contrast to the left bank that features local history.
During the ceremony, volcanic ash and rain started to fall, forcing many citizens to take shelter in the newly built centre.------------------------------------------------------------------
