Renshinkan souls meet in Kagoshima
　The Second World championship of the Shorinji-ryu Karate Renshinkan took place at Kagoshima Arena in Kagoshima City on August 1. Under the slogan of “Bond of Passionate Souls,” a total of 1,248 competitors from 18 nations including Japan displayed their heated battles.
The event comprised “kata,” a series of fixed forms of karate techniques, and “kumite;” and the spectators seemed fascinated with the commanding and imperious kata performances and the powerful kumite matches. There were also performances by both instructors and visually impaired competitors who displayed kata; others exhibited “shiwari,” in which competitors broke such materials as kawara tiles and wooden boards, drawing applause from the audience.
The third world championship is scheduled to be held in Taiwan in 2015.
