「鹿児島」 商標登録に待った！
「鹿児島」の名称が中国で商標登録出願されていた問題で、県は中国商標局に異議申し立てを申請、受理されたと３１日、発表した。今回出願分が登録されれば、会社名や看板などに鹿児島の名称が使用できなくなる。異議が認められれば、中国では「鹿児島」の商標登録はできなくなる。

Bolt out of the blue!
Kagoshima Prefecture announced on March 31 that its objection claim against the trademark registration of the name ‘Kagoshima’ in China, was received by the Chinese Trademark Bureau. Should the claim be rejected and the name registered as a trademark by the Chinese authorities, it will make it impossible for prefectural companies or organisations to use either as a corporate name or on signboards in the country. If the authority would sustain the plaintiff’s objection, however, the registration of the name ‘Kagoshima’ in the fast-growing country will be prevented hence after.

‘announced’ は「（声に出して）発表した」。類は ‘publish’ ‘declare’ ‘release’ ‘disclose’ など。‘its … Kagoshima’ は「中国における『鹿児島』という名称の登録についての県の異議申し立て」。‘objection claim’ は ‘objection’ は「異議、反論」。‘claim’ は「要求、請求；主張」。‘Chinese … Bureau’ は「中国商標局」。



“Should the claim be rejected and the name registered as a trademark by the Chinese authorities, it will make it impossible for prefectural companies or organisations to use either as a corporate name or on signboards in the country.”

‘Should … rejected’ は「もしもその請求（異議申し立て）が棄却されたら」。‘Should ~’ は ‘If ~ should …’ と言う形から ‘if’ を省略した倒置表現ですが、「実現の可能性が低い；万が一」というニュアンスが入ります。‘trademark’ は「商標」。
‘it … country’ は「中国国内では鹿児島県の会社や組織が会社名や看板で（「鹿児島」という名称を）使えなくなる」。日本語では誰が「使用できなくなる」のかという主語が明示されていませんが、具体的には行政の出先機関や鹿児島の会社ということです。

‘If … objection’ は「もし当局（中国商標局）が原告（鹿児島県）の反論を認めたら」。 ‘sustain’ は「支える、耐える；（裁判官が）（発言などを）認める」。逆の「却下する」は ‘overrule’。‘plaintiff’ は「原告」。‘complainant’ とも。逆の「被告」は ‘defendant’。
‘the … hence after’ は「その急成長の国における『鹿児島』という名称の登録は今後阻止される」。‘fast-growing country’ は、現在経済成長が著しい「中国」のこと。‘prevent’ は「防ぐ、先手を打つ、（力や可能性）を奪う；拒む」。‘hence after’ は「今後」。類は ‘from now on’ ‘henceforth’ ‘in future’ など。



タイトルの “Bolt out of the blue!”　は「晴天の霹靂！」。

「鹿児島」が商標登録されていたことは、県の上海事務所が今年１月２０日付の商標局の公告で確認したそうです。公告日から３カ月以内の４月２０日が異議申し立て期限となっており、もし気づかなければそのままになっていたかもしれません！中国商標法では、「公衆に知られた外国地名」は認められないとなっているそうですが、「鹿児島」の知名度が問題になると言うことになりそうです。。。
