参院選 二大政党「最後のお願い」
７月１１日の参議院選挙を前に、与野党の二大政党トップらが相次いで鹿児島を訪れ、有権者に支持を訴えた。
野党第一党の自民党の谷垣禎一総裁は７月５日、鹿児島市を訪れ、鹿児島選挙区（改選数１）に立候補した同党現職陣営の集会に出席し、与党の過半数阻止を訴えた。８日には若手の注目株・小泉進次郎衆院議員が、鹿児島遊説を行った。
鹿児島選挙区を「最重点区」に位置付ける与党第一党の民主党も、６日に枝野幸男幹事長が鹿屋、志布志、霧島の３市で街頭演説したほか、菅首相も８日に鹿児島市のＪＲ鹿児島中央駅東口の「若き薩摩の群像」前で、新人候補の応援演説に臨んだ。（Source:373news.com 2010 07/06）

Parties make last-ditch efforts for upper house
Leaders of the two main political parties of both the ruling and the opposition camps visited Kagoshima one after another to call on the voters for support before the House of Councillors election on July 11.
Leader of the main opposition Liberal Democratic Party of Japan (LDP), Tanigaki Sadakazu, visited Kagoshima City on July 5 to attend a gathering of supporters of the party-affiliated incumbent candidate who joined the race for the Kagoshima district, where one seat is contested for re-election. On July 8, the House of Representatives member and the LDP’s young hopeful, Koizumi Shinjiro, made a campaign trail in Kagoshima.
Meanwhile, the secretary general of the main ruling Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ), Edano Yukio, who placed the Kagoshima district as “the most important district” in the election, made street speeches in the cities of Kanoya, Shibushi and Kirishima on July 6.
He was followed by Prime Minister Kan, who on July 8 delivered a campaign speech for a fresh candidate in front of “the Monument of the Satsuma students” that stands at the East exit to Kagoshima Chuo Station.
