種牛・種豚を「疎開」　口蹄疫対策
　宮崎県での口蹄（こうてい）疫拡大を受け、鹿児島県は６月１９日までに、現在一括管理している県所有の種牛・種豚を、県内数カ所に分散させる方針を固めた。感染疑いが発生し、同一農場内の全頭が殺処分対象となるリスクを避けるのが目的。
　県所有の種牛・種豚は「鹿児島黒牛」「かごしま黒豚」ブランドの元となる。移転先には種子島や口永良部島など離島が候補に挙がっており、「受け入れ先の畜舎の準備など早急に進めている」（県畜産課）という。

Prefecture’s cattle, swine to seek asylum from disease
　In response to the spread of foot-and-mouth disease in neighbouring Miyazaki Prefecture, Kagoshima Prefecture has decided, by June 19, that it will disperse its breeding cattle and swine, each currently managed at one place, across several sites. The measure is aimed at averting the risk of all the heads within the same farm being killed in case of a suspected outbreak of infection.
　The stud bulls and pigs owned by the prefecture are sources of the local brands “Kagoshima Black Beef” and “Kagoshima Black Pork.” The prefecture’s Livestock Industry division says they are urgently proceeding with the transference, including the preparation of livestock barns at the potential relocation sites, which include remote islands such as Tanegashima island and Kuchinoerabujima island.

Seek[ask for, apply for] asylum[protection] は「亡命［保護］を求める」。
宮崎県が管理する種牛のうち、同県が殺処分回避を要望していた種牛４９頭の殺処分の要望が決定され、さらに「エース級」と呼ばれる６頭のうち、エース中のエースである「忠富士」の感染が確認され、殺処分されました。宮崎牛ブランドは消滅の危機に立たされており、鹿児島県の関係者も戦々恐々としているようです。この影響で様々なイベントが中止されるなどの副作用もでているようです。
政府は感染が確認された地域の１０キロ圏内のすべての牛と豚を殺処分する方針を決めており、その数は約３２万頭に上ります。殺される牛や豚や、生産農家の方の気持ちを考えると心が痛みますが、感染が拡大するとさらに多くの被害が出る可能性は否定できず、やむ終えない政治判断だといえるでしょう。
