山川－根占フェリーが運航休止
　指宿市山川と南大隅町根占を結ぶフェリー「ぶーげんびりあ」は２月２８日で、運航を休止した。同航路は２００６年１１月、県と指宿市、南大隅町、岩崎グループの４者による官民協同で運航を開始。しかし、岩崎側が赤字などを理由に離脱を表明し、２月末での航路休止を運輸局に届け出た。行政側は早期の航路再開を目指している。

Nejime Ferry ends operations
Ferry “Bougainvillea,” which had been operating between Yamagawa in Ibusuki City and Nejime in Osumi Town, ended its operation as of February 28.
The ferry line was rendered “in service” in November 2006 by a government-private sector group comprised of Kagoshima Prefecture, Ibusuki City, Minami Osumi Town, and the private company Iwasaki Group. However, it notified the Transport Bureau of its end-of-February suspension after Iwasaki announced its withdrawal from the business due to a deficit, among other reasons. The government hopes to reinstate the line at an early stage.
