伊佐市で「氷の祭典」

伊佐市で「氷の祭典」
「鹿児島の北海道」と呼ばれる冬の寒さを生かした伊佐市のイベント「第１５回氷の祭典 アイスカービングｉｎ伊佐」が１月２３日夕、市文化会館前広場で始まった。１２団体が夜を徹して氷の造形に挑んだ。
平川聖一実行委員長（６０）は「１週間早めた日程変更が当たり、ベストの競技環境。良い作品が期待できそう」と話した。
会場には、長さ５０メートルの氷の滑り台も設置され、子どもたちの人気を集めた。
祭典は２４日午前１１時まで。

Ice festival in Isa
Isa City’s annual event, which takes advantage of its cold winter, “the 15th Ice Festival –Ice Carving in Isa” began at a square in front of the Cultural Hall on the evening of January 23. Due to its cold winter, the city is dubbed the “Hokkaido of Kagoshima.” In the event, twelve groups funnelled their energy to create ice sculptures through the night.
Mr. Hirakawa Seiichi (60), chairman of the event’s committee, said the climate was perfect and their decision to shift the event a week earlier proved right. He said he was looking forward to seeing fine works of art.
At the venue, a 50-meter long ice-made slide was also set up and attracted a lot of children.
The festival will be held until 11am on the 24th.

Due to …：・・・に起因して（because of） (is)dubbed：・・・と呼ばれる（called, nicknamed）
In the event, twelve groups funnelled their energy to create ice sculptures through the night.
Funnelled ~ sculptures：氷の彫刻作りにエネルギーを注いだ。Funnel は「漏斗；～を注ぎ込む」。

鹿児島は今月日に大雪（とは言っても北国に比べれば小雪ですが）が降り、鹿児島外語学院（GAiGO）前の鹿児島大学水産学部グランドでは、早朝から留学生が雪合戦や雪だるま作りをして楽しんでいました。GAiGOの学生も朝はちょっと雪遊びをしました。しかし現在は気温は戻り、桜島が連日のように火を噴いています。
