観光で“薩長同盟”
昨年１０月に姉妹盟約を結んだ鹿児島、山口両県観光連盟は、２０１１年春の九州新幹線鹿児島ルート全線開業を見据え、連携して修学旅行誘致活動を始める。
　鹿児島県連盟によると、修学旅行で互いの県を訪れるのは例年数校程度。山口は大阪や長崎、鹿児島は九州内が多いという。全線開業で両県が約２時間で結ばれるため、「市場開拓の余地は十分ある」とみている。

Kagoshima-Yamaguchi tie in tourism
The Tourism Federations of Kagoshima and Yamaguchi prefectures, who concluded a friendship treaty last October, will collaborate in promoting school trips between their regions ahead of the opening of the entire Kyushu Shinkansen Kagoshima Route in the spring of 2011.
According to the Kagoshima Federation, only a few schools from Kagoshima travel to Yamaguchi, and vice versa, on school excursions annually. Many schools in Yamaguchi opt for Osaka or Nagasaki, whereas those in Kagoshima make areas within Kyushu their destinations. The authorities expect that there are still chances for them to exploit the (school trip) market as the connection between the two prefectures will be two hours after the completion of the bullet train line.

薩長同盟の立役者となった坂本龍馬が現在、NHKの大河ドラマをはじめ大活躍のようです。今でこそ大人気の永遠のヒーローですが、明治維新を見ぬままこの世を去った影のヒーローであった面も人気の一因でしょうか。因みに、薩摩藩側の立役者で、同じく早世で余り知名度のなかった小松帯刀も昨年はNHK大河ドラマ「天樟院　篤姫」で脚光を浴びましたが、鹿児島外語学院の学生は毎年、鹿児島市にある彼の別邸跡の清掃ボランリアを行なっています。
