奄美本土復帰５６年
　米軍統治下にあった奄美群島の日本復帰５６年を祝う記念式典が１２月２５日、奄美市名瀬のおがみ山公園であった。小中学生や関係者ら約３５０人が参加。復帰運動のリーダーで詩人の泉芳朗の胸像に献花し、全員で詩を朗読した。
　式典で朝山毅市長は「一滴の血も流すことなく祖国復帰を成し遂げた世界に誇るべき運動。先人の偉業を学び、語り継ぐのが務め」とあいさつした。

56th anniversary for Amami return
A ceremony was held at Ogami Park in Naze, Amami City on December 25th to commemorate the 56th anniversary of the Amami islands’ return to Japan after it had been governed by the U.S. army. A total of around 350 people concerned as well as elementary and junior high school students attended the ceremony, where they offered flowers to the bust of Izumi Yoshiro, a poet and the leader of the return motion, and read his poem aloud together.
During the ceremony, city mayor Asayama Tsuyoshi said the movement for Amami's reintegration should be proclaimed worldwide as it had achieved its goal without a single drop of blood. He said it was their duty to hand down the achievements of their predecessors from generation to generation.
