桜島が初冠雪
冬型の気圧配置となり、鹿児島上空に強い寒気が流れ込んだ影響で１２月１６日、桜島が初冠雪した。鹿児島地方気象台によると、桜島の初冠雪は平年日と同じで、昨年より１０日遅い。同気象台によると、冬型の気圧配置はしばらく続く見込みで、１７日からは寒さが厳しくなり、週末は平地でも雪が降るところがあるという。２１日からは寒気の流れが緩み、寒さはやわらぐ。

Sakurajima heralds arrival of winter
Due to a winter pressure pattern that brought strong cold air over the Kagoshima area, Mt. Sakurajima had its first snow cap of the season on December 16th. According to the Kagoshima Local Meteorological Observatory, the snow appeared as usual on average over the years, though 10 days later than last year. The authorities predict that the winter air system is likely to continue for the time being, and that the cold will strengthen from the 17th, bringing snow to some regions at lower altitudes on the weekend. The cold is forecast to let up from the 21st as the cold air current will ease.
