竹燈籠でまち興し／南さつま市
南さつま市金峰町大坂で１２月６日夜、「２０００年橋　竹燈籠祭」があり、約５０００個の竹燈籠が幻想的な風景をつくり出した。地域おこしグループ「金峰風の会」と「大坂有志会」が、地域活性化のため昨年に続き開催した。「金峰風の会」の蓑茂正利会長（５７）は「皆の協力のおかげでやれた。来客にも喜んでもらえてよかった」とホッとした表情を見せた。

Kinpō-cho fuels boom with bamboo lanterns
On the night of December 6th, the ‘2000 Bridge Bamboo Lantern Festival’ was held in Osaka district in Kinpō-cho, Minamisatsuma City where some 5,000 bamboo lanterns were displayed to create a mysterious atmosphere. The event was organized by ‘Kinpō Kaze-no-kai’ and ‘Osaka Yushi-kai,’ who are local groups aimed at boosting the development of the area, and who started the event last year to revitalize the region. Mr. Minoshige Masatoshi (57), chairman of ‘Kinpō Kaze-no-kai,’ said with a relieved expression: ‘we were able to carry out (the event) because of everyone’s cooperation. I’m also glad that the visitors were pleased (with the event).’
