鹿屋－中央駅直行バス試験運転
２０１１年春の九州新幹線全線開業を見据え、大隅半島に観光客を呼び込もうと、鹿屋市と鹿児島市のＪＲ鹿児島中央駅を結ぶ直行バスの実証運行が１２月１日、始まった。直行バスは３３人乗りで、垂水フェリー代を含め片道１３００円。同区間を約２時間で結び、１日５往復する。鹿屋市ではセレモニーがあり、第一便の乗客１０人を山下栄鹿屋市長らが出迎え、バラの花など記念品を贈った。

Direct bus to Kanoya on trial
Ahead of the opening of the entire Kyushu Shinkansen Line (to Kagoshima Chuo Station) in the spring of 2011, a direct bus pilot operation connecting Kanoya City and Kagoshima City’s JR Kagoshima Chuo Station started on December 1st. The non-stop bus can carry up to 33 people, and a single fare costs 1,300 yen, including the cost of using the Tarumizu Ferry. It operates five buses a day, and connects the two points in two hours.
There was a ceremony in Kanoya City where the ten passengers on the commemorative maiden voyage were welcomed by the people concerned, led by Kanoya City Mayor Mr. Yamashita Sakae, who presented the passengers memorial gifts such as roses.
