１４０年後の「パリ万博」
１８６７年の第２回パリ万国博覧会に薩摩焼が初出品されて１４０年を迎えたのを記念した「薩摩焼パリ伝統美展」が２０日、フランス・パリの国立セーブル美術館で開幕した。来年２月１８日まで１７世紀から１９世紀の薩摩焼など約２００点を展示する。同期間中、県内の作家の作品を並べた「現代薩摩の陶芸パリ展」も併せて開催される。

Satsuma remembers Paris after 140yrs
The Traditional Satsuma Ware Exhibition in Paris opened on Nov.20 at the Sevres national Museum for ceramic in Paris, France. This is in commemoration of the 140th anniversary of the local pottery’s first exhibition by the then Satsuma Clan at the Second Paris Exposition in 1867. Around 200 works of Satsuma Wares and others in the 17th to 19th centuries will be on display until the 18th of February of next year. During the event, another fair featuring works by modern pottery artists in Kagoshima, will also take place in conjunction with the event.

‘The Traditional … Paris’ は「薩摩焼パリ伝統美展」の訳。‘Sevres … ceramics’ は「セーブル美術館」。正式名称は「フランス国立陶磁器美術館」です。



“This is in commemoration of the 140th anniversary of the local pottery’s first exhibition by the then Satsuma Clan at the Second Paris Exposition in 1867.”

‘in commemoration of ’ は「記念の」。‘anniversary’ は「・・・周年の」。‘the local pottery’（地元の焼物）は「薩摩焼」のこと。‘then ~’ は「当時の」。‘the Second Paris Exposition’ は「第２回パリ万博」。



“Around 200 works of Satsuma Wares and others in the 17th to 19th centuries will be on display until the 18th of February of next year.”

‘works’ は「作品」。‘Satsuma Wares’ は「薩摩焼」。‘(be) on display’ は「展示される」。類は ‘(be) exhibited’ ‘(be) shown’。



“During the event, another fair featuring works by modern pottery artists in Kagoshima, will also take place in conjunction with the event.”

‘During the event’ は「そのイベント（薩摩焼パリ伝統美展）の期間中に」。‘featuring ~’ は「～を特集した」。‘take place’ は「開催される」。‘in conjunction with ~’ は「～と併せて、協力して」。



タイトルの “Satsuma remembers Paris after 140yrs”　は「薩摩が１４０年後にパリを回顧する」。

第２回パリ万国博覧会が開催されたのは、１８６７年。同じ年、日本では徳川慶喜が大政奉還し、明治新政府が樹立しました。パリ万博への薩摩藩独自による出展は、そんな江戸幕府の衰退と薩摩藩の影響力の増大を象徴する出来事でした。

それから１４０年。来年度には、そんな江戸時代末期に生きた「天樟院篤姫」がＮＨＫの大河ドラマとして放映され、再び鹿児島に注目が集まりそうです。これをきっかけにして、鹿児島を観光地としてより発展させていきたいものですね。
