妙円寺参り
日置市の伝統行事・妙円寺参りと関連行事が１０月２４日、同市伊集院の徳重神社を中心に始まった。関ヶ原の戦いで敵中突破した島津義弘の武勇を偲んで同神社までを歩くもの。当日は、鹿児島市などから歩いてきた参拝者が終日途切れず、境内には人があふれた。夕闇が濃くなるころ、かがり火のともる徳重神社に、伊集院町武者行列保存会約１５０人が参拝。ほら貝の音が響く中、勇ましく歩を進める甲冑姿の行列が浮かび上がった。

Retracing the path of bravery
Hioki City’s traditional ‘Myōenji-mairi’ event and other associated events kicked off mainly at Tokushige Shrine in the city’s Ijūin district on October 24. The annual event is held to memorialise the valorous deeds of Shimadzu Yoshihiro who bravely broke through enemy lines during the decisive Battle of Sekigahara (in 1600 A.D.). On the same day, the precinct of the shrine was filled with the flow of pilgrims who walked from various places including Kagoshima City. As darkness set in, around 150 members of Ijūin-cho Musha-gyouretsu (warrior procession) Preservation Society paid their visit to the shrine where bonfires silhouetted the spectacle of an armoured procession in the midst of the echoes of the sounds of Horagai –a trumpet shell.
