肝付町で流鏑馬
９００年近い歴史を持つ肝付町の流鏑馬が１０月１８日、同町新富の四十九所（しじゅうくしょ）神社参道で奉納された。走る馬の上から放たれた矢の命中度で五穀豊穣などを占う祭りで県指定の無形民俗文化財。彩り鮮やかな狩衣（かりぎぬ）装束に身を包んだ射手の有馬耕大君（１４）は神馬「銀河号」にまたがり、約３３０メートルの馬場を３回駆け抜け、９本中６本を命中させた。鹿児島市から訪れた主婦は「りりしい姿に感動した。時代劇を見ているようだった」と話した。

Shooting for a good year
Kimotsuki-cho’s ritual dedicated to the shrine, Yabusame, whose history goes back nearly 900 years ago, took place at the approach to Shijūkusho Shrine in the town’s Shintomi district on October 18. The festival, which is a prefectural designated intangible folklore cultural asset, is held to judge the fortunes of such events as the harvest of grains in the year to come by the number of arrows launched from a running horse to hit targets. Riding on a horse called ‘Ginga’ that is dedicated to the shrine and clad in a colourful hunting costume, the archer Arima Kodai (14) ran through the 300 metre-long course three times to successfully hit the targets six times out of nine. A housewife from Kagoshima City said she was impressed by the (archer’s) manly attitude and it was as if she was watching a history drama.
