鉄砲伝来に祝砲
約４６０年前の鉄砲伝来を記念する式典が１０月１３日午前、ゆかりの地・南種子町の門倉岬で開かれた。主催する種子島火縄銃南種子保存会南部鉄砲隊が一斉試射などを披露した。西之表市の西之表港では同日夕、種子島火縄銃保存会が、広島の修学旅行生ら約２３０人を豪快な試射で歓迎。鉄砲伝来は１５４３年旧暦８月２５日とされており、その記念日に珍しい保存会２団体の“競演”となった。

Ancestors saluted with a bang
A memorial ceremony to commemorate the arrival of guns to Japan around 460 years ago took place on the morning of October 13 at Cape Kadokura in Minamitane-cho where the firearms are said to have first arrived. During the ceremony, the event’s organiser, Tanegashima Matchlock Preservation Society South Musketeers, displayed some performances including a salvo of the classic rifles. In the evening, Tanegashima Matchlock Preservation Society fired blanks for visitors including around 230 students on school excursion from Hiroshima who arrived at Nishinoomote Port in Nishinoomote City and were welcomed by a magnificent volley of gunfire. This rare joint event by the two different preservation societies came to fruition on the same day - 25 August, 1543 according to the lunar calendar – as when guns are said to have arrived on the island.

Ancestors saluted with a bang：祖先にど派手なごあいさつ
Salute は「（礼儀正しく）・・・にあいさつする；（礼砲などで）敬礼する」。Bang は「（風船や銃声の）衝撃音、炸裂音、ドスン［ゴツン、バタン、ズドン］という音《cf. bump, thud》」。with a bang は「成功して、華々しく」という意味でも用いられます。
