斉彬生誕200年記念品が完成
幕末の薩摩藩藩主・島津斉彬生誕２００年を記念して、鹿児島市の仙巌園が制作を進めてきた薩摩切子とお庭焼が完成し、斉彬の誕生日にあたる９月２８日、同園で一般公開が始まった。薩摩切子は花瓶で直径、高さとも約３０センチ。斉彬と時代の夜明けのイメージから「黎明（れいめい）」と名付けた。お庭焼は尚古集成館所蔵の白薩摩を忠実に再現し、秋の花が金や赤など華やかな色彩で描かれている。

Commemorative works marking Nariakira’s anniversary completed
A Satsuma cut glass work and an ‘Oniwayaki’ pottery work produced by Senganen in Kagoshima City to commemorate the 200th birthday anniversary of Shimadzu Nariakira, the Lord of Satsuma at the dawn of Japan’s modernisation, have been completed and were unveiled to the public at Senganen’s Japanese Garden as of September 28, the birthday of Nariakira. The cut glass is a vase measuring about 20 centimetres both in height and diameter, and was named ‘Reimei’ or ‘Dawn’ to symbolise the image of the progressive leader as well as the dawn of the new era. The Oniwayaki is an authentic reproduction of a white Satsuma piece belonging to the Shōko Shūseikan Museum, on which autumn flowers are depicted in gorgeous colours such as red and gold.
