「ネットいじめ」が増加
２００６年度に鹿児島県内の公立小中学校、県立高校の児童生徒が被害者となった「ネットいじめ」の報告が、４８件あったことが分かった。インターネットの掲示板などに、実名入りでひぼう中傷が書き込まれたりしており、携帯電話での書き込みが増えている。県教育委員会は「氷山の一角。モラル教育を急ぎたい」としている。

‘Internet bullying’ on rise
According to the prefecture’s education board, the number of ‘Net bullying’ cases that the prefecture’s junior high and high school students had suffered in 2006 was 48. The ‘Net bullying’ involved posting slanderous messages of specific persons on internet bulletin boards, with increased messages being posted from mobile phones. The education board said it would immediately work on the problem by strengthening moral education, especially as the number of the reported cases may be only the tip of the ice berg.

‘According to~’ は「～によると」。‘education board’ は「教育委員会」。‘the number of ~’ は「～の数」。‘case’ は「実例、事例」。‘suffer’ は「（損害など）を受ける」。

‘involve’ は「伴う、含む」。‘slanderous messages’ は「中傷する書き込み」。‘slander’ の類は ‘libel’ ‘defamation’ ‘scandal’。‘specific person’ は「特定の人物」。‘internet bulletin board’ は「インターネットの掲示板」。‘with increased … mobile phone’ は「携帯電話からの投稿が増えて」。

‘immediately work on the problem’ は「すぐにその問題に取り掛かる」。‘by strengthen moral education’ は「モラル教育を強化することによって」。‘the number of reported cases’ は「報告された事例件数」。‘the tip of the ice erg’ は「氷山の一角」。

情報化が進展し、いまや携帯電話を持っていない高校生のほうが珍しい時代になりました。コンピュータゲームなどに熱中しすぎて社会に適応できなくなる「中毒者」が深刻な問題となっている一方で、今では「セカンドライフ」など、実際にそこで経済が動いているバーチャル世界まで構築されています。

もはやパソコンなしでは社会生活が成り立たなくなりつつありますが、このように機械に依存すればするほど、人間としての能力は衰えていってしまうように思えます。それを予言したのがスタンリー・キューブリック監督の「2001年宇宙の旅」でしょう。現在「脳力」を鍛えるゲームやグッズなどが売れたり、武道が見直されたりしつつあるのも、そういった危機感に対する裏返しかも知れません。

・・・かく云う筆者も、パソコンの不具合のため ‘Weekly Kagoshima on the Web’ を2週間もご無沙汰してしまいましたが。。。（結局新しいパソコンに買い換えました；）
