桜島納涼船２万人突破／鹿児島市
鹿児島市が夏休み期間に運航する桜島納涼観光船の乗客が８月２８日、４年連続で２万人を超え、出港前に同市本港新町の桜島フェリーターミナルで記念式典があった。２万人目は一家４人で鹿児島市に帰省中だった熊本県人吉市の会社員男性は「４年前には妻が乗船５千人目になり、今回とても驚いている」と話した。市船舶部によると、利用者は１日平均５１３人で、県外客も多いという。運航最終日の３１日は桜島火の島太鼓などのステージがある。

Sakurajima cruise ferry achieves feat in summer heat
The number of passengers taking the Sakurajima Night Cruise operated by Kagoshima City during the summer holiday season exceeded 20,000 for four consecutive years on August 28 and a memorial ceremony was held before the departure at the ferry terminal in the city’s Honkō-shinmachi district. The 20,000th passenger was an office worker in Hitoyoshi-cho, Kumamoto Prefecture who was coming back to Kagoshima with his family of three and said he was very surprised since his wife was the 5,000th passenger four years ago. According to the city’s ship division, the number of passengers on the cruise boat is 513 a day on average, many of which are from outside the prefecture. There will be performances including Sakurajima Hinoshima-daiko drums on the 31st to commemorate the final day of the night cruise.
