トカラウマ乗用育成へ
十島村の宝島トカラ馬保存会が島で飼育している２頭のトカラウマを乗用馬に育て上げようと、同会会員の親子４人が８月初旬、岩手県遠野市の乗用馬育成施設に赴き、飼育管理や調教法などを学んだ。岩手で得た知識と技術を生かして宝島で調教を行い、秋には馬具を装着させて人を乗せる練習を始める予定。島の子ども全員が乗馬できるようになるのが当面の目標で、将来的には観光の目玉としての活用も目指す。

Tokara horses in training to become feature attraction
With the aim of raising two Tokara horses kept by Takarajima Tokara Horse Preservation Society in Toshima Village to be riding horses, two pairs of parent-child society members visited a horse training centre in Tohno City, Iwate Prefecture in early August to learn various skills such as rearing management and horse training. They will then train the horses by applying the knowledge and skills gained in Iwate, and will start riding practice with a harness in autumn. Their immediate goal is to make it possible for all the children on the island to be able to ride on the horses, while at the same time envisaging this kind of horseback riding as a feature tourist attraction in the future.

Immediate goal：当面の目標（~aim, target）　　　to ~ horses：島の子ども全員が乗馬できるようになること。Make it possible for ~ to … は「〔主語によって〕～が・・・できるようになる」。　　　At ~ time：同時に　　　envisaging ~ attraction：この種の乗馬を将来の観光の目玉にすることを視野に入れている。Envisage は「・・・（の将来）を心に描く；・・・を（ある見地から）考察する」。Horseback riding は「乗馬」。feature tourist attraction は「観光名物」。
