鹿児島市で戦亡者慰霊祭
６４回目の終戦記念日の８月１５日、鹿児島市は同市照国町の探勝園で第二次世界大戦戦亡者慰霊祭を開いた。雨の降る中、遺族や市内の小中学生ら約３００人が参列し、犠牲者の冥福を祈って黙とうを捧げた後、次々と献花した。式典の中で、児童を代表して山下小６年の川越桂華さん（１２）は「今も世界各地で内戦や空襲があり、戦争は遠い昔の出来事ではない。平和のために努力することを誓います」と決意を述べた。

Kagoshima City remembers war dead
Kagoshima City held a memorial ceremony for the war dead from the Second World War on August 15 commemorating the 64th anniversary of the End of the War Memorial Day at Tanshoen in Terukuni, Kagoshima City. Some 300 people including the bereaved families and elementary and junior high school students in the city attended the ceremony in rainy weather to offer a moment of silence for the repose of the war victims then offered flowers one after another. During the ceremony, Kawagoshi Keika (12), a sixth grader at Yamashita Elementary school, stated her determination on behalf of the students saying: ‘War is not a thing of the distant past as we still have civil wars and air raids in every part of the world. We swear to make efforts for peace’.
